Link Building - Is it worth the effort?
Getting backlinks to your website is one of the critical things that you need to do, if you are targeting top search engine rankings. So now you are starting to think where to submit your website?,what about the quality of website that you are submitting to?, how many submissions should you do?, how frequently should you submit? and Is it really worth the effort? Lets clear up these things so you can confidently go about with your link building efforts.
First lets take a look at, where you should be submitting your website. You start out with the few general directories, move onto some specialized directories and then approach websites that are complementary to your business. This is basic approach most website owners take and its a good way to start.
So now you are ready to submit your website to some general directories. Does the quality of these general directories matter? Absolutely yes! You dont go about submitting your website to every run of the mill directories. How long have the directories been in existence, do people browse through those directories, is there a relevant category for listing your website, is there some good editorial for the listings are some things you may want to look at. Though Google Page Rank and Alexa traffic statistics will give some insight, don’t rely on them completely.
When is enough is just enough. There isnt a hard and fast rule that “x” number of links is just enough or an infinite number of links is needed. Depending on the industry you are in you are going to need so many links. However its good to get started with the efforts than worrying about when to stop. Submit to a hundered directories and look at your success rate and then decide how to move forward.
Now you have submitted to a few directories, seen it first hand that it works and now you want to pump up your efforts to get this in full swing. So do you go ahead and submit your website to 100 directories every day or use an automated program that will keep submitting your website every hour? Wont that get you a lot of backlinks, top rankings and traffic? Nope, you are optimizing your website for natural search rankings, so let your efforts be natural. If you think your automated submissions can trick the search engines, just remember search engines too are programs like your automated submission programs and it dosent take them long to spot your pattern.
So now you are thinking if this is all worth the effort you are putting in. Well definately yes! You may not see an payoff right away, however in the long run you will be glad that you had put in the effort. Is that it?
