This is the time of the year when resolutions are made, predictions are propagated, statistics are released and plans crafted for the year ahead. Dont worry I am not going to bore you with a long list of things, however I will do a quick overview of what to expect

More web 2.0 sites: Seems like the dotcom years for web 2.0 sites. Lot of money is being pooled into creating web 2.0 sites. Taking clue from the success of the social bookmarking and ranking sites, there will be a lot of niche bookmarking and ranking sites. As an end user you stand gain from the different services and from an advertisers standpoint this brings more opportunities to reach out to customers.

Social Media Optimiztion: The focus of the major web 2.0 properties being the social interaction and community building, companies would want to connect with customers. Looking at the statistics of some popular sites, the traffic from social media seems to surpass the traffic from search engines. And I guess thats one good case to allocate some significant time and effort for social media optimization.

People Powerd Search: Major search engines have already started testing this aspect in the natural search like yahoo incorporating yahoo answers into the regular search results and google bringing up the google co-op service. And here again there will be new niche people powered search engines.

With all the developments in the internet marketing space search engine optimization, link building and pay per click will still remain significant traffic generators to your website, expcept that its getting complicated and interesting by the day.
