Time Travel - Search Engine Ranking Algorithm
While most of the search marketers time is spent on figuring out the search engine ranking algorithm and the different weighting factors that could give a push in the search rankings, here is someone who talks about “20 ways search engines may rerank search results” in the future.
While some of the techniques mentioned by Bill Slawski are already being used by the search engines, there’s lot more to learn from his list. Duplicate Content, Relevant pages from same site, country specific results, language specific results, historical data, are some of those things that are handled by the search engine already.
Again there are some points where he mentions re-ranking based on recording user inputs/activity would be good, however are more likely to be abused.
One thing that he mentioned caught my attention is this “10.Changing ranking order based upon commercial intent”.
While as search marketers we categorize keywords into different phases of buying cycle and optimize our sites for top rankings what if the search engines themselves did it? Interesting Huh!!!
