Web Analytics Software - Why do you need one?

Designing a website, optimizing the site for top search engine rankings, running a pay per click campaign is all good, but how do you track the results of your efforts? And that is what a web analytics software will help you do.

The web analytics software will tell you which one of search engine brings you the traffic, which one of the keywords brings you the traffic, which one of sites where you bought a link brings you the traffic and more. What I have mentioned so far would be available on any free web analytics software. However this gets to a whole new level when the analytics program provides you the ability to add conversion goals(sign ups, downloads, sales…), define navigation funnels, create content groups and more.

What if you knew keyword A, brought 120 visitors via Search Engine B, for your Ad Version C, and made 5 sales? How much do you value such information? What if you found the keywords that your target market use to locate your website, but never had thought of such keywords?

Google is giving away an enterprise class web analytics software for free. This program when released had a very high demand and google had to close the doors and only let people in by invitation. However recently made it an open to all program. You just need to sign up and you could track upto 50 websites!!! How cool is that?

Though google says they arent going to do anything with the data collected, some people are still skeptical about the program. If you are big corporate and concerned too much about your data, go get yourself other commercial grade programs. However if you are just starting out and want to see what a analytics program could do for you, your best bet would be try out google. Its way worth more than the asking price(FREE)!!!
